Tour de France 2019 – Quick Guide No.1
The 106th Tour de France starts from Brussels in Belgium on Saturday 6th, 2019. The race is a total of 2,163 mile (3,479km) and for many riders, it’s the ultimate bike race, although the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana also carry enormous prestige.
The Tour is the best attended annual event in the World and has more people watch it live than the Olympics or the World Cup. Spectators throng along the route, sometimes inches from the riders so it’s definitely an up close-and-personal event which adds enormously to the drama.
Christian Prudhomme is the race director and describes this year’s course as “the highest Tour in history”. There are 5 energy-sapping mountain-top finishes with 3 climbing above 2,000m.
The grande finale is along the Champs Elysee on Sunday 28th, July.
